Here is a quick summary of this week’s (July 12th) Market News highlights regarding the produce industry:
CABBAGE: is a cruciferous vegetable, which means it comes with a host of health benefits. Supplies are steady. Quality remains consistent with sizing and overall appearance. Include Cabbage in summertime grilling promotions as a reminder to serve slaw as a side dish at summertime picnics.
ASPARAGUS: while the quality is still good, the market has really firmed up with light supplies.
LETTUCE: supplies continue to be slightly lower than budget. Fields that were behind schedule have caught up due to the increase in demand. Quality is still very good. The weather has been mild and growing conditions have been ideal. The forecast is for steady prices for the week.
LIME: supply is expected to be strong during July. As the current cycle wraps up, small fruit will be scarce. Overall quality and shelf life will deteriorate as we go through summer.
MUSHROOM: as we have been reporting the last few weeks, the freight, labor, and supply challenges are expected to last for the next several months.
